Our Enactus project Community Orchard kicked off a successful event this month by planting more than 100 trees in 4 community orchards around the city. The communities that benefitted were in association with Acadia Community Garden and Art Society, the Calgary Homeless Foundation, and Grow Calgary. The plants, trees and supplies were donated in thanks to businesses partnered with REAP Calgary, which is a not-for-profit association that works for the betterment of the community and environment. Four varieties of apple trees, raspberries, blueberries, gooseberries, honeyberries, red, black and white currants were all planted in the four locations all thanks to the hard work from the volunteers of Enactus members, AMIO members, and the supporting associations. Avatara Pizzeria, Nacco food truck and Tim Hortons also kept our members fed and happy during the event. We can't thank all the volunteers and members enough in making the event a huge success and we can’t wait to see the changes and benefits that result from the growing of the orchards in the years to come.
